About srail.com and Ken Srail
My
collecting roots go back to early childhood. I started my stamp collection in 1971 with the help of my dad
(who collected as a child and still collects today) and my Columbian World's Fair collection
in 1976.
Unlike most "youth collectors" who abandoned the hobby
when high school, college, or "other interests" interfered, I continued
collecting throughout my teenage and young adult years. After graduating
from college in 1987 (magna cum laude Chemical Engineering) I worked for 10 years
at a Fortune 500 company, intially as a polymer research scientist but eventually moving through several different research and development management positions. That R&D work experience gave me an
excellent background in computers and the Internet.
My hunt for stamps and world's fair collectibles went
"online" when I joined eBay in February 1996 (one of the earliest
registered dates) and it
wasn't long before my "hobby" quickly blossomed into
a full-time business. I left my R&D job in late 1996 and by late 1998 I was
well-established on eBay and a charter "Powerseller
Gold" member. Since then, I've gradually moved my
business from eBay to the srail.com website. I've now sold over
33,000 items via the Internet, ranging in price from $1 to $10,000's,
and in size from single stamp lots to
collections filling many boxes.
I'm active in philatelic and "world's fair"
organizations, including:
- American Philatelic Society (life member)
- United States Classics Society (life member)
- United States Stamp Society
- Christopher Columbus Philatelic Society
Another interest of mine is music. I play piano
"professionally" (part-time) and have performed with various groups
since the early 1980's. Although I enjoy playing most musical genres, I
especially enjoy jazz. I'm currently playing in the jazz trio "Winelight", based in
the Cleveland, Ohio area.
I'm always happy to answer questions. Please ask if you
don't understand something. I'm more than happy to share my knowledge
or offer an opinion.
I'm always buying!
